Meet the Chef!

Who's that smiling guy behind the kitchen window, busily rolling out pastry dough and keeping an eagle eye on the turn-out line? You've seen him zooming through the diningroom, greeting guests and checking on tables. He's behind the take-out counter. Making sure every order is right. He's fussing in the pastry case, making things beautiful. That's Chef Mario, co-owner of The Summer Kitchen, and he's the reason why everything we serve is fresh, attractive and delicious

Mario Korenstein is an honors graduate of Philadelphia's prestigious Restaurant School. Long a local favorite, Mario spent ten years cooking at the popular Meil's Restaurant in Stockton and also manned the stoves at Café con Leche. As co-proprietor of The Summer Kitchen, Mario continues to perfect his very special, very personal brand of cuisine.

A native of Cuba, of Jewish origin, and trained in classic European cooking, Mario offers an eclectic menu of original dishes you won't find anywhere else. In his tiny kitchen he makes his own stocks and sauces, prepares his own pates and quiches, and makes virtually all his own baked goods - check out his signature Cuban Chocolate Cake! Inspired by seasonal products and his wide-ranging repertoire, Mario presents creative special dishes in addition to his extensive regular menu. Very much a hands-on owner, it is likely that Mario has personally prepared every portion of your meal.
